A Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) is a unique, numerical identifier that contains a year and serial number. The LCCN is assigned by the Library of Congress to book titles before they are published. The Library of Congress decides whether a book is added to its collection after publication, when you mail a copy of your book to the Library for review.

A content editor performs a deeper dive into the content and structure of the story. If an evaluation editor looks at the book at the chapter level, the content editor looks at the paragraph level. Are your settings and actions presented in a well-designed sequence? Is the dialogue believable? They may recommend moving paragraphs or adding or deleting sections. Does the tone match the audience and will it keep them engaged?

A barcode is a series of bars and spaces used to encode information into a visual pattern that machines (barcode scanners) can read to quickly identify a product. A barcode is necessary to sell physical copies of your book at retail locations.
